01. Please introduce Syarlothsita?
Syarlothsita has been long known as a mysterious musical project behind a little girl cartoon character. Syarlothsita, in fact, consists of Kiki Tsalatsita (vocals), Chirippaa (guitars), Florecita (ukulele), Glockie (glockenspiel), Chelsea & Goldilock (Harmonicas) and helps from other friends. Syarlothsita loves to play pop and folk- ballad music for both children and adults. Syarlothsita’s songs have been inspired by playgrounds, circus, fantasy tales, and children’s cheerfulness as well as various musicians such as Vermillion Lies, Marit Larsen, The Carter Family, The Almanac Singers, etc. Syarlothsita had been featured in the Deathrockstar Sampler vol. 2, a project of Eric Wirjanata’s to compile several Indonesian female musicians. In 2010, it was like a miracle happen when Syarlothsita became one of Favorite Singer/Songwriter nominees in Indonesian Cutting Edge Music Awards.
02. How would you describe Syarlothsita’s musical style?
Syarlothsita finds that the trend of children music is increasing nowadays, and that most children songs in Indonesia are not properly and beautifully arranged, except for Sherina and Tasya’s era. However, that was a long time ago and although using orchestration in children song is terrific, it requires lots of efforts and budgets to produce. Therefore, Syarlothsita has envisioned to provide modest children songs with decent arrangement but only using day-to-day musical instruments that are easy to find and to play. Within Syarlothsita’s music landscapes two different musical styles can be found; the first style is enriched with various children instruments (glockenspiel, melodica, recorder, tambourine) and the other is a simpler style with guitar and sometimes accompanied by harmonica which produces more prominent folkish sound. As time goes by, Syarlothsita grows older and learns to be more mature, and so do the songs.
